Block 6

Introduction - Final Project Version 1

In this block I have created the first version of my final project. This project is another video blog and deals with the proper method for turning on a home audio recording studio system. We often don’t think about it, but sometimes failure to to a system on properly can result in audio components not being seen by either the computer or Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).

The reason this project is called the “first version” is that it will be critiqued by both the professor and my class cohorts.

The Video

In this video I learned that, while fun, there are limits to what Camtasia 2 can do. For example, Camtasia 2 doesn’t have any sort of grouping. This is not really a problem if you only have one to three tracks to work with, but in more complex scenarios it can become a problem. In my case, I have a diagram which has many different elements in it. So, without grouping, I had to multi-select in order to move the elements in the timeline. What mad this difficult was that the elements extended over about 9 tracks which could not all be displayed without scrolling. Thus, I had to move part of them, and then move another set and realign with with the first set; a very time consuming process.

In the creation of my block diagram, I realized that there were some things that would just have to be left out. For example,  I wanted to give an indication of the way certain items flowed. I was unable to do this without an additional 6 tracks, to the already overloaded timeline. Still, I think it turned out pretty well.

There are some elements that I have not added in this version, namely, Closed-Captioning. This will be added for Version 2 of the project.

Richard Mayer's Principles Used in the Video

The following principles from Mayer were added:

Signaling Principle

Redundancy Principle

Spatial Contiguity Principle

Temporal Contiguity Principle

Segmenting Principle

Pre-Training Principle*

Modality Principle

Multimedia Principle

Personalization Principle

Voice Principle

Image Principle+

*The video podcast was built on the idea that listeners would be familiar with basic concepts and terminology. However, mild reminders of concepts and terminology was placed throughout.

+Because this was a video podcast, the speakers image does appear on occasion, but is not present during illustration of concepts.
